You speak almost four times faster than you type.

Most people type around 40 words per minute and speak around 150. A Stanford University study found that dictating is about three times faster than typing, even with corrections.

If you write 2,000 words a day, you save 34 minutes a day. That is 12 hours a month.

A typical work email has about 100 words, a Slack reply 20 to 40. The calculation adds 20% extra time for checking the transcript.

You know what you wrote to whom.

Every transcript stays on your computer, with the time and the window it went to. At the end of the month you have a record of what you worked on.

  • A timeline by day with the app and conversation name
  • Search and date ranges: today, this week, 10 to 90 days or a custom range
  • Statistics: words, speaking time and time saved
  • Export to Markdown or CSV, for example to use with AI
History window: dictation entries by day, with the app and window name History window in dark mode

Small things that matter.

Music quiets down by itself

Spotify and videos drop to a tenth of their volume while you dictate, then come back.

Privacy your way

Transcribe offline on your computer, or in a second via Groq with your own free key.

Your own shortcut

Ctrl + Win by default, Ctrl + ⌘ on a Mac. It does not get in the way of common shortcuts like Ctrl+C.

No made-up text

Silence is never sent for transcription, so you will not get invented sentences like “Thanks for watching!”.

Updates itself

When a new version is out, Diktovátko lets you know. One click, and your settings, key and history stay.

No subscription

Free and open source. No account, no word limit, no monthly plan.

$0a month, for good

No monthly fees. Ever.

Paid dictation apps charge a subscription every month. Diktovátko is open source and free. No card, no account, and no counting how many words you have left.

  • No subscription and no trial that runs out
  • No account, no sign-up
  • No limit on words or dictation length
  • Fast transcription via Groq is free on its free tier too

Want text in a second? Get a free key.

Without a key, Diktovátko transcribes on your computer. It works right away, but transcription takes about as long as the recording. With a free key from Groq, the text is ready in about a second.

  1. Open console.groq.com/keys.
  2. Sign in with Google or email. No credit card needed.
  3. Click Create API Key, name it for example Diktovátko and confirm.
  4. Copy the key starting with gsk_ using Copy. It is shown only once.
  5. Click the Diktovátko icon, open Settings, paste the key into Groq API key and click Save settings. Done, your next dictation goes through Groq.

The key is yours alone. Every user creates their own, it is stored only on your computer, and you shouldn't send it to anyone. If it leaks, delete it at console.groq.com and create a new one. The free tier covers hours of dictation a day, and without a card on file you are never charged.

Offline or online. You decide.

Diktovátko can transcribe in two ways. With a saved key, you switch between them with one click right in the indicator.

Local · slow

Offline on your computer

  • Your recording and text never leave your computer
  • Works without internet
  • Transcription takes about as long as the recording
  • About 1.6 GB downloads on first use
Cloud · fast, with a Groq key

Online via Groq

  • Text is ready in about a second
  • Light on your computer
  • Nothing is made public, Groq does not train on recordings, and with Zero Data Retention it keeps nothing
  • The recording of your voice leaves your computer
  • Needs an internet connection

A switch right in the indicator

While you dictate, the indicator shows a label on the right. One click decides whether the recording goes to the cloud or stays on your computer. It applies right away, even to the sentence you are saying, and your key stays saved. Try clicking the label.

Cloud · fast: transcribed by Groq, ready in about a second.

Heads up: in online mode, what you say leaves your computer

With a key, the recording of your voice is sent to Groq servers in the USA and turned into text there. Don't dictate anything that must not leave your company this way: passwords, client personal data, health information or confidential contracts. For sensitive content, switch the indicator to Local · slow and transcription runs offline. Your dictation history is stored only on your computer in both modes.

What's new

Diktovátko keeps evolving. Here is what arrived in the app most recently.

0.20.0 latest

  • The indicator has a six-dot handle on the left to grab and drag it when it's in the way.
  • The spot you drag it to is remembered for each screen separately. Double-click puts it back at the bottom centre of that screen.

0.19.0

  • Multiple screens: the recording indicator always shows on the screen with your active window, where the text will be pasted. A position you dragged it to (say, top right) is kept on every screen.

0.18.0

  • Dictation no longer overwrites your clipboard. After the dictated text is pasted, the original clipboard comes back in full, including formatted text, images or copied files. If you copy something new while it pastes, that stays.
